Meet Mete & Georgia!
Hey there, Shaggers—we’re Mete Erdogan and Georgia Frances King, the lucky custodians of Shag Manor. We bought this 1970s time capsule in Melbourne’s inner north in 2023 and are lovingly restoring it to its disco-era splendour.
We’re all about restoration over renovation. Instead of gutting this beautiful four-bedroom brick veneer family home and turning it “millennial greige,” we’re keeping all the retro design elements and highlighting its mid-century-modern Italian eccentricity. I mean, have you seen this bar?
As an art director (Mete) and a writer/editor (Georgia), we’re pros at creativity, not renovation. In fact, we only accidentally became DIYers after a tradie didn’t show up to peel the 50-year-old brown stripy wallpaper off the walls. So we decided to have a go at doing it ourselves, and so far, so good! Our restoration journey has been featured in The Design Files, Domain, and The Guardian.
